Stairwell cleaning in Amsterdam begins, for us, at the handrail, the one part of the stairs everyone grips with bare hands. On a wooden rail a dark, slightly sticky layer of skin oil and dirt builds up, and on a metal rail you see fingerprints and dull patches. That does not come off with a quick wipe.

How we do it
We degrease a handrail with a cloth and a mild product that dissolves grease but leaves the finish intact. On wood we work with the grain and dry it straight away. On stainless steel or a coated steel rail we use a different product and buff it streak free. We never skip the underside, because on many rails that is where most of the grease sits.
