Can chlorine be used on my fence?
We do not use it. Chlorine removes the growth but bleaches the wood and opens the grain, so new growth draws in faster. It looks better for one season and worse after that.
Can timber look like new again?
Greyed untreated wood becomes noticeably lighter but not new. To get the original colour back you need sanding and restaining, and cleaning is then only the preparation for it.
Clean first or paint first?
Clean first, always. Paint does not bond to growth and flakes within a year. Do leave the timber a few dry days after cleaning before the painter starts.
