How much space should there be between a wardrobe and an outside wall?
Enough to slide a hand in between, so air can circulate behind the furniture. A wardrobe on legs helps even more because air also gets underneath. Put large cupboards against an inside wall where you can, since it stays warmer than a wall facing the outdoors.
Can you also remove the mould from the wardrobe itself?
From a lacquered or painted back panel, usually yes. Untreated chipboard or hardboard soaks up moisture, and then the mould may have grown into it. In that case we tell you honestly that replacing the back panel is the better choice, and we clean the rest of the furniture.
Do I need to empty the wardrobe before you arrive?
Please do, because a full wardrobe is heavy and can get damaged when moved. Check the clothes or things that were against the back panel at the same time, as they may smell musty. Set them aside to be washed or aired before they go back into the clean cupboard.
