Why does my carpet look like two colours?
Because the pile lies in two directions and reflects light differently. That is a direction difference rather than a colour one, and it disappears once the whole room is finished one way.
How do I prevent pressure marks?
With wide cups that spread the weight, and by shifting heavy furniture a few centimetres now and then. A narrow leg on a thick carpet always leaves a permanent impression.
