Will my chair roll smoothly again afterwards?
It often rolls better, because hair and thread around the axle brake the castors. If a castor itself is worn or broken, cleaning does not change that, and fitting a new one is outside what we do.
Do you clean the mechanism under the seat too?
Only on the outside and dry. We take dust and grime off the base plate and the levers, but we do not open the mechanism or remove any lubricant, because the chair would then tilt or creak differently.
Why does the base matter if nobody sees it?
Because the dust lying there is stirred up with every movement of the chair and ends up on the seat and the floor. A clean seat on a dirty base therefore turns dull again sooner.
