Why does my sofa take so long to dry?
Probably foam filling. Foam lets moisture sink to the bottom and holds it there; springs and fibre dry considerably faster because air can pass through.
Can cushions be treated separately?
Yes, and it is wiser. Treating and drying them separately dries both sides, and on a sofa with fixed cushions that is exactly what cannot be done.
Can too much water damage the filling?
Not foam immediately, but over time: foam repeatedly soaked and slowly dried breaks down faster and starts to smell. That is why we use less moisture there.
