Can a test on a hidden spot cause a mark itself?
That is why we pick a spot you really cannot see and use a small amount. The whole point is that any reaction happens there and not in the middle of the seat. We never test on a visible spot.
Why do you test even when there is a label?
A label tells you what the manufacturer allows, but not how the fabric reacts after years of use, sun and earlier cleaning attempts. An armchair may, for example, have been reupholstered in a different fabric from the one on the old label.
