Will the original colour of my faded armchair come back?
No. Sunlight breaks down the dye in the fibre, and what is gone a clean does not bring back. The fabric does get cleaner, which makes the armchair look fresher. The difference between the sunny and shady side stays visible.
Why does the seat of my light velour armchair look darker?
Sometimes that is skin oil and dirt, and it gets lighter with cleaning. Sometimes the pile lies differently there and catches the light another way. Brushing up along the pile helps then, but pile that has been sat flat for years does not become quite like new.
How do I prevent fading in future?
Keep the armchair out of direct sunlight, for example with a net curtain or by moving it a little. Turn loose cushions now and then so they get light evenly. A throw on the sunny side does a lot too.
