Armchair cleaning in Eindhoven almost always starts at the top for us: the headrest. A head rests against the fabric every evening, and hair products, skin oil and shampoo slowly soak in until a dark, slightly shiny patch forms that only spreads wider when you rub it with a cloth.

  • Rinsed through so no greasy ring is left behind

How we do it

Grease does not dissolve in water, so a degreasing product goes onto the headrest first and is left to work. Only then do we rinse and draw the oil out of the fibre with the extractor. Do it the other way round and the stain just moves to the edge, leaving a grey ring where the head used to lie.

Will a dark headrest go fully light again?
It often comes back a long way, but an oil stain that has sat in the fibre for years can leave a faint shadow. We tell you that honestly after watching the video, rather than promising something the fabric cannot deliver.
Does it help if I try washing-up liquid on the headrest first?
Better not. Washing-up liquid foams, stays in the filling and then attracts new dirt faster. Leave the spot as it is, so the video shows what is really there and we can choose the product to match.
How do I keep the headrest clean for longer afterwards?
A thin, washable throw over the top edge catches most of the skin oil and simply goes in the machine. Hair gel and oils are the worst culprits, so try not to lean back against it with freshly styled hair.
