Why don’t you just wash the covers?
Because many upholstery fabrics shrink or fade in the machine, even with a zip. The zip is often there so the foam can be replaced, not for washing. Always check the label first.
Can I put the cushions straight back afterwards?
Wait until they feel dry, including in the middle. A cushion that goes back into the chair damp dries badly underneath and can develop a musty smell.
The covers were washed once and went lighter, can you fix that?
No. Colour that ran in the wash does not come back with cleaning. We can remove dirt from the rest of the chair, which sometimes makes the difference look smaller, but it stays visible.
