Why did the stain get bigger when I cleaned it myself?
Because of rubbing and using too much water. The moisture spreads the dissolved stain through the fabric and dries as a larger ring. With chenille, rubbing also flattens the tufts, so the patch catches the light differently too.
Can a carpet cleaner not do any harm on an armchair?
A carpet cleaner is made for a floor that can take a lot of moisture and has a thick underlay. On an armchair too much water and shampoo stays in the filling. That gives rings, a stiff fabric and a chair that stays wet for a long time.
What should I tell you about what I already tried?
