Can you tell whether my old armchair has been reupholstered?
Often yes, from newer staples underneath, a fabric that does not match the style of the frame or a more modern seam. That is useful to know, because an old label then no longer applies to the fabric on it now.
Can a very old armchair still be cleaned?
Usually yes, but with extra care. Old fabric can be brittle and old filling handles moisture badly. We first check how strong the fabric and seams are and then work as dry as needed. If the fabric is too weak, we say so honestly.
What if the fabric turns out to be a blend?
Then we follow the most delicate fibre in that blend. If it contains wool or viscose, for example, we work at a lower temperature with less moisture, even if most of it is synthetic.
