Is it soot or just dust?
Wipe a white cloth over the wall a metre above your stove. If the cloth goes brown rather than grey it is soot. Vacuuming or dry wiping then achieves nothing and a degreaser is needed.
Do you do the flue too?
No, that is a chimney sweep’s work and should happen annually. While the flue goes unswept, soot keeps entering the room however often we come.
Does soot come out of my curtains?
Partly. We vacuum them with a fine filter and that lifts the loose part. Soot that has set into the fibre stays; dry cleaning is then the next step and that is a different service.
