Why is real leather a separate treatment?
Leather is a hide that copes poorly with water and needs conditioning after cleaning so it does not dry out. Fabric, on the other hand, needs water and extraction to get clean. Two materials, two methods, even when they sit on the same sofa.
Can water from the fabric damage the leather?
Drops on leather can leave dark patches. That is why we do the leather first, shield it and work along the join by hand. If a splash does land on it, we lift it off immediately.
Do I need to know what kind of leather it is?
It helps, but it is not required. A photo of the label or a close-up of the leather usually tells us enough. If it is a delicate leather without a protective finish, we adjust the product to suit it.
