Having leather chairs cleaned in Utrecht is different work from fabric chairs, and we treat it that way. Real leather is a hide that needs oils and moisture to stay supple. A cleaner that removes dirt also removes part of those natural oils, so after cleaning there is always a conditioning step.

How we do it

We start by working out whether the leather is pigmented, semi-aniline or aniline, because the last is unprotected and absorbs whatever lands on it. Then we clean with a leather cleaner and a soft brush, lift the residue with a cloth and apply a conditioning lotion that keeps the leather supple. We use as little water on leather as possible.

Leather is handled by a trained, insured and vetted specialist who knows you do not treat leather like fabric. He brings his own leather cleaners and conditioners, safe for families and animals. Why do you charge for leather separately?
Because it is a different treatment. Leather gets its own cleaner followed by a conditioning lotion, and that second step takes time and product that fabric does not need. If you have both fabric and leather chairs, you simply see both as separate lines on the same quote.
Will dark patches on the armrest of my leather chair come out?
Part of those dark patches is dirt and grease, and that often lifts well. But leather that has absorbed skin oil for years has sometimes darkened in the hide itself. No cleaner removes that, and we tell you so beforehand.
How regularly should a leather dining chair be conditioned?
With daily use a few times a year is a good rhythm, and more often if the chairs stand in sunlight or next to a radiator. In between, dusting with a dry cloth is enough. Leather that is never conditioned turns stiff and eventually cracks.
