Upholstery cleaning in Nieuwegein

Upholstery cleaning in Nieuwegein for antique chairs and old dining sets deals with two materials at once. The seat is fabric, but the frame is wood with an old lacquer or wax, and a product that cleans the fabric can leave a dull mark on that wood.

What is included

  • Wooden frames and legs taped off or covered
  • A colourfastness test on the old upholstery
  • Decorative nails, piping and buttons checked before we start
  • Cleaning with little moisture, so the wood does not swell
  • An assessment per chair, even within one set

How we do it

We shield the wood around the seat first, so no moisture or product reaches the finish. Then we test the fabric and clean with a foam method and a soft brush instead of lots of water. Decorative nails and piping we leave alone as far as possible.

What you get

A set of six old chairs is often not six of the same, because over the years one may have been reupholstered. Our trained, insured professional looks at each one separately and says so when a seat would do better with an upholsterer.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know

Can the wood be damaged by cleaning?
That is why we shield it and work with little moisture. An old lacquer or wax finish can turn dull from water or a product, and that is harder to put right than the fabric. We take no risks with it.
Why do my chairs look different after cleaning?
Because they have not lived the same life. The chair at the head of the table has been used more, and a chair that was once reupholstered has a newer fabric. Cleaning makes them clean, not identical twins.
Should I take loose seats out of the chair?
If they come out easily, that helps, because then nothing touches the wood. If they are fixed with nails, leave them. Opening and refixing can do more damage than the cleaning itself.
