Upholstery cleaning in IJsselstein

Upholstery cleaning in IJsselstein for an old armchair or an heirloom is often not about the fabric but about what lies beneath it. Older furniture is stuffed with horsehair, coir, straw or early foam, and those fillings react very differently to moisture than a modern sofa does.

What is included

  • An assessment of the filling before anything gets wet
  • A colourfastness test on a hidden spot
  • Dry vacuuming with a soft nozzle
  • Cleaning with as little moisture as the filling allows
  • Honest advice when an upholsterer is the better choice

How we do it

We feel the seat and look at a seam or the underside to see what is inside. Natural fillings can start to smell or lose their shape with too much moisture, so on such a piece we work with foam and a cloth rather than lots of water. The colour test always comes first.

What you get

With several old pieces we take our time per item and do not pick one approach for everything. Our trained, insured professional tells you honestly what cleaning achieves and where an old, thin fabric reaches its limit.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know

How do I know what is inside my old chair?
Look under the chair for a fabric bottom cover with a loose corner, or feel the seat. Horsehair feels springy and slightly crisp, early foam can be crumbly. Film it and we will take a look.
Can an old filling be damaged by cleaning?
Too much moisture can make a natural filling clump or smell. That is why we deliberately use little water on these pieces. If the fabric is already so thin that it tears, we advise against cleaning.
Can I have one piece done to see how it goes?
Certainly, and with several heirlooms that is a sensible start. Choose the piece that matters least to you, so you see the result before deciding on the chair you are most attached to.
