Why is the back of my sofa clammy?
Because no air can move past and the wall is colder than the room. Condensation forms there and draws into the foam. It is the same reason mould sometimes sits behind a cupboard.
What can I do about it?
Stand the sofa a few centimetres off the wall so air can pass. It sounds small and it is the only measure that genuinely solves it, because this is about airflow rather than cleaning.
Is there mould in my sofa?
There can be, and you see it on the back of the fabric or the underside of the seat. We assess it and say honestly whether it can be removed or has gone too far in.
