Is a flattened seat full again after cleaning?
The fibre often springs back a little after brushing, so the spot shows less. Foam filling that has sagged will not recover from it, because that is wear in the foam rather than dirt. Only an upholsterer can fix that.
Can I turn cushions over to prevent this?
Yes, if your cushions are covered on both sides, flipping them now and then and swapping places is the best thing you can do. The grease and pressure then spread over more fabric. If that is not possible, a throw on your usual spot helps.
Why does my usual spot smell different?
What you smell is the skin oil and sweat of many evenings, drawn into the filling under that spot. By treating it longer and extracting right into the foam, that smell goes with the dirt in most cases.
