Professional cleaning

Armchair cleaning in Amsterdam

We only clean an antique armchair in Amsterdam after a test. Old chairs often have horsehair or kapok filling, upholstery that was once fixed by hand and dyes that do not always tolerate water, so we start small and in a spot nobody sees.

What is included

  • Colour test on a hidden spot before cleaning anything
  • Upholstery checked for thin patches and loose seams
  • Careful vacuuming with a soft brush nozzle
  • Wooden frame and legs dusted dry, never treated wet
  • Honest advice if the fabric had better not be cleaned

How we do it

We first go over the chair with you and point out what we notice. Then comes the test. If the fabric releases no colour and stays firm, we clean with very little moisture and in small sections. If the upholstery is too fragile, we keep to vacuuming and say so.

What you get

A trained, insured and vetted specialist arrives who would rather be too careful than too quick. Our products are eco-friendly and safe for family and animals. We do not treat the wood, carving or finish of the frame, because that is work for a furniture restorer.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know

Why do you test first?
Because old dyes can run and old fabric can shrink or tear when it gets wet. A test on a hidden spot soon shows whether cleaning is responsible, before anything happens on the visible side.
Will a discoloured antique chair look new again?
No, and we like to say that upfront. We remove dirt and dust, but fading from sunlight and stains that are decades old stay visible. An old chair is allowed to look old.
What if the test does not go well?
Then we do not clean with moisture. We can still vacuum the chair carefully, or otherwise recommend an upholsterer. You do not pay for a treatment we did not carry out.
